1. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to the Family Safety mobile application, including account features, live location sharing, circles, safe zones, entry and exit alerts, place history, notifications, and related support functionality.
By using Family Safety, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
2. Information We Collect
Account and profile information
- Name, email address, phone number, and account credentials.
- Profile photo or avatar you choose to upload.
- Circle membership details, invitations, and role-related profile information.
Location information
- Precise device location when you grant permission.
- Background location data when enabled to support live map updates and geofence alerts.
- Saved places, safe zones, check-ins, trip details, and place history associated with your circles.
Device and diagnostics information
- Device identifiers needed for authentication, messaging, and app functionality.
- Push notification tokens used to deliver alerts.
- Crash and performance diagnostics used to monitor app reliability.
Purchase-related information
If you use premium or subscription features, transaction processing is handled by the platform provider (Apple App Store or Google Play). We may receive status information about the purchase but do not receive full payment card details.
3. Legal Basis for Processing
We process your information under the following legal bases:
- Contractual necessity — to provide and operate the Family Safety service you signed up for, including account management, circles, location sharing, safe zones, and alerts.
- Consent — for optional features such as background location access and push notifications, which you may grant or revoke at any time through your device settings.
- Legitimate interest — to maintain service security, prevent misuse, improve reliability, and provide customer support, where these interests are not overridden by your rights.
- Legal obligation — to comply with applicable laws, legal processes, and regulatory requirements.
4. How We Use Information
- To create and manage your account.
- To create circles, invite members, and display shared locations.
- To create safe zones and send entry or exit alerts.
- To provide place history, check-ins, trip information, and related safety features.
- To send service notifications and critical account messages.
- To improve app stability, debug failures, and maintain security.
- To enforce terms, prevent misuse, and comply with legal obligations.
5. Background Location and Notifications
Family Safety relies on location access, including background location where permitted, to support family safety features. If you enable background location, the app may process location updates while the app is closed or not actively in use.
Background location is used to keep shared maps current and to trigger safe-zone entry and exit notifications. If background location is disabled, some core safety features may not work correctly.
Family Safety also uses push notifications to deliver alerts about circles, arrivals, departures, and other important account activity.
6. How Information Is Shared
We may share information in the following limited circumstances:
- With members of your circle, according to the features you use and permissions you grant.
- With infrastructure providers that help us operate the service: authentication, database, storage, crash reporting, messaging, and mapping providers.
- When required by law, legal process, or a valid governmental request.
- To protect the rights, safety, or security of users, the service, or the public.
We do not sell your personal information for third-party advertising.
7. Third-Party Services
Family Safety uses the following third-party services and SDKs:
- Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Storage, Messaging, Remote Config, Crashlytics) — Google LLC
- Google Maps and related location services for map display, places, and geolocation.
- Apple App Store or Google Play billing infrastructure for in-app purchases where applicable.
8. International Data Transfers
Family Safety uses cloud infrastructure provided by Google (Firebase, Google Cloud). Your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in countries outside your country of residence, including the United States.
Where such transfers occur, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission, or the service provider's compliance with recognized data protection frameworks, to ensure your information is protected in accordance with applicable law.
9. Data Retention
We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service, maintain circles and safety features, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements.
- Account data — retained while your account is active and deleted within 30 days of an account deletion request.
- Location and place history — retained while you are an active member of a circle. Historical location data is removed when you leave a circle or delete your account.
- Crash and diagnostics logs — retained for up to 90 days for debugging and then automatically purged.
Retention periods may vary depending on legal or regulatory requirements.
10. Your Rights
Depending on your location and applicable law (including the EU General Data Protection Regulation), you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification — request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Erasure — request deletion of your personal data, subject to legal retention requirements.
- Restriction — request that we limit the processing of your data in certain circumstances.
- Data portability — request your data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.
- Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interest at any time.
- Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.

11. Your Choices
- You can control location, camera, photo access, and notification permissions from your device settings.
- You can update profile information inside the app.
- You can leave circles or delete your account. See our Account Deletion page for details.
12. Children and Family Accounts
You must be at least 13 years old to create a Family Safety account. If you are under 18, you must have the consent of a parent or legal guardian.
Family Safety is designed for family and group safety use. If you add another person to a circle, you are responsible for ensuring you have the appropriate authority and consent to share that person's information through the service.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13 without verified parental consent, we will delete it promptly.
13. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures intended to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date on this page. Your continued use of Family Safety after an update means the revised policy applies going forward.
